Is Remodeling Worth It?

We gave you a little introduction on what the general goal is for most home buyers and owners in today’s day and age, to hopefully one day make some money off of the huge investment you made and all of the hard work that you put into your home’s roof and interior!

With the housing market fluctuating so drastically over recent years, you may be among the many others out there wondering if spending money on professional home improvement services on your home is worth it in the long run. Well, there is no right or wrong answer to this important question and it depends on what your goals are in the future.

But we are here to tell you about our personal experience and opinions on the matter so keep that in mind as you continue on!

What’s Your Game Plan?

stylishSo at the end of the day, we all very well may want to own a home for different reasons. Do you want to keep this home for the rest of your life and cater everything to your preferences and desires? Do you want to simply increase the value of your home as much as possible before you finally put it back on the market in the future? Or maybe you are looking to be a landlord and are wanting to rent your home out to make your profits that way.

Depending on what you would eventually like to do is a major factor in whether or not you choose to make some real investments on renovations. For us, our opinions have always been pretty consistent in that if you have the money to spend on your home we usually always recommend doing so.

Now obviously this may vary from person to person but we have found that if you are going to hire home improvement professionals then renovating a bathroom & kitchen from contractors like this is generally the most valuable investments you can make. If you don’t believe us, then look at what HGTV has to say in regards to this topic. As you can see, the bathrooms and kitchens are almost always the top 2 most important and valuable home improvement projects you can do.

Be Unique, But Realistic

So at the end of the day, what does every home owner hope for when they purchase their homes?

To eventually one day make some money!

This is why it is important to keep in mind what is popular in today’s market place and what people are generally looking for in regards to styles of homes. We have talked about and obviously love creativity here at Stylish Home Fashions, but you don’t want to go overboard and make something so unique that you are going to be the only person out there who appreciates it! For the Sellers

Well, if you don’t even plan on selling your home in the future then you can skip this post and go as crazy as you would like!

winterFor the majority out there however, we would like to sell our investment eventually and make a little bit of extra money if all goes well. This is why it is important to keep the general theme of the home market value in mind when doing any sort of major changes or improvements to your home. You never want to lose money when making any changes to your home and if you do something so drastic that you are the only one who can appreciate it, this is exactly what you might end up doing.

This is where the professionals come in once again and can help steer you in the right direction. We will give more credit to another team of contractors that I have personally used in the past at – Tuck Pointing. Like most of you reading this, I don’t have that much of an idea on what exactly is “selling” in today’s market place and like most professional companies out there, they did and helped me make some decisions that I just couldn’t make my mind up on.

Remember that these guys are in the business for a reason and have the experience that you and I do not!

Staying Consistent

Even though pretty much everything we talk about on here is going to depend largely on personal preference, there are a few things that everyone should keep in mind regardless of their likes and dislikes.

Maintain A General Theme

So remember our little analogy about your roof being a frame for your house in the same way your hair is a frame for your face? Well you wouldn’t get a haircut that is a completely different style than your clothes or general appearance, right?

houses2Well the same sort of idea applies to your home as well and you should try and keep a general theme for your home as a whole. If you have brightly colored siding on your home, then you should probably stick with that sort of idea for the roof of your home as well and vice versa.

The same sort of theme should remain consistent across your whole house across. You don’t want the back of your house to be a different style or color as the front of it and you generally want to stick with one sort of style throughout the entire thing.

The Same for the Interior

If you want to really impress your guests, then it never hurts to maintain the same theme for the exterior of your home as for the interior. This shows that you really care about making your home stylish and keeping up with the times!

The Roof is a Frame For Your Home

Have you ever heard of anyone saying that you should never be stingy with the cost of a haircut because your hair is what frames your entire face? Alright, maybe a few of you gentlemen reading this haven’t heard that in your life before so trust us ladies when we say it.

The Same For Your Home!

Well the same concept can be applied to the roof of your home! Think of it as a hairstyle that frames the entire foundation of your house; and we all know how distracting a bad haircut can be.

So before we have mentioned that you don’t have to be afraid if you don’t really know where to start when trying to outline how you want your home to look but not to worry! This is where the professionals can come in to give you a push in the right direction and steer you into your ideal vision.

niceplace2Here is another team of St. Charles Roofers that we have used in the past for a number of their services and just like we are sure a lot of you would be, we didn’t really know where to begin when choosing what roof and siding we wanted to outline our home.

Professional teams of contractors like this love to share the knowledge that they have in their respective industry and 9 times out of 10 are more than happy to talk to you about whatever questions, comments, or concerns you may have with the work that you want done.

If you still aren’t convinced that you need a professional team to help you out just yet, there are a number of resources online that you can use to help expand on some of the ideas that you may have started in your head. Real Simple is one that I have been a huge fan of for a long time now and offers a huge variety of different options and ideas for you to try out on your own!

What The Professionals Can Do For You!

So I would assume that there are a number of you out there reading this that are probably asking to yourself, do I really need to hire a professional company to take care of the decor and design of my house?

Well, there is no easy answer to that question but I think it is safe to assume that for the majority of you reading this it probably wouldn’t hurt.

Trust Your Gut

niceplaceAlong with most of the things that we discuss on our page and what we have told our clients in the past, is that it is best to use your best judgment when making these sort of decisions and go with your gut when deciding whether or not this is a worthy investment to make.

Another thing that is common throughout pretty much all of our discussions on here is that this is based primarily on personal preference. But this page was created to help guide you in the right direction when designing your home and we hope that most people who find what we talk about interesting are those who are either newer to the subject or are beginners looking for pointers.

I would like to say however, that everyone starts somewhere and not everyone is as passionate about styling up your home as much as we are. Every staff member that we have has gone through the process of hiring professionals at some point and you will only get more comfortable going without them as time goes on.

Let’s Give Some Examples

Pop Quiz!

What is the most common type of roofing you see in suburban American homes?

What colors are they and what do you think they are made of?

samehousesAlright so we don’t have the exact numbers or statistics on this question so take what we say with a grain of salt, but if you said grey/black and asphalt (refer to this Chesterfield Roofing Company that we have used for an example), then you at least thought of the same answer that we had in mind.

Now what about the side and other parts of the exterior of a house? What do you think is the most common material used and what colors are you seeing the most often?

Again, we don’t have the stats to this question but if you said vinyl or aluminum (refer to these Vinyl Siding Options for another example), then you have again picked the same answer as us!

Great job!

Nothing Wrong With These Homes

Now, we certainly don’t have anything against these styles of homes or the owner’s taste in decor, but Stylish Home Fashions has always been all about being unique and letting our creativity take over.

This is what got us all of our popularity and success when we originally started with baby decor and products!

So what other options are there out there for your exterior? Well, unfortunately their aren’t that many options in regards to what you can use to build a house, but there are certainly plenty of options out there to spice things up! You can always hire a plethora of painting and siding companies to come and make whatever you have in mind come to life.

And never be afraid to ask for their professional opinions or feel out what they think about what you have in mind. Remember that these people do this for a living and are generally more than happy to give their honest and professional opinion on what they do best. On that note, there are also a number of professional interior and exterior design companies that know what’s hot and what’s not in today’s day and age.

Does the Same Apply to the Exterior?

So if you couldn’t tell from our last discussion, we here at Stylish Home Fashions have always loved colors! We love nothing more than a house that goes out of their way to give their home a unique, yet classy aesthetic look that separates them from the rest of the houses in their neighborhood.

I don’t know about you, but we have noticed more and more that neighborhoods are tending to have what appears to be exact replicas of homes throughout the whole neighborhood. The opening song and intro to the TV show “Weeds” has never been more accurate than in today’s day and age.

Keeping the Same Ideas in Mind

Although we love houses that separate themselves from others, it is just as important to us not to go overboard with color schemes on the exterior of your house as it is for the interior.

old house1How many of you out there have that one house on the street that is painted in rainbow colors, with no real style or method to the madness? Now we respect what they are trying to do by expressing their sort of “individuality” with their home, but no one likes an attention seeker and it is painfully obvious when this is the case.

For those of you with less experience than others in home decorating, it is best to at the bare minimum ensure that your roof and siding color schemes at least blend together and are easy on the eyes, yet still unique enough to grab someone’s attention.

Colors Colors Colors!

Now that we have gotten our awkward introductions out of the way, we can start talking about what we brought this page back for!

One of the most important things that you can do when trying to improve the overall look of your home on both the inside and the outside is to not shy away from colors!

Don’t Get Carried Away

Now let us preface this by saying that we do not necessarily mean the more colors the better, but we are living in a time where the typical white on white or grey is out of style and is too typical of homes out there.

Our goal for our readers who take any of our advice out there is to make your home stand out from your brothers or sisters, your neighbors and friends. We want people who come to your home to leave feeling like they saw a house that is both unique and classy and going with the standard colors that have been so popular in the past just doesn’t do it anymore.

Keeping that in mind, we don’t recommend simply going to the store and grabbing as many different cans of paint color of you can and to just go crazy. Having too many colors going on in a house is just as bad as having none and can actually be much worse. Take a look here at House Beautiful for some unique ideas we are talking about.

You don’t want to appear like you are desperate or seeking attention with the decor in your house but you absolutely want to keep a sense of uniqueness and personality on your home.
